Job Title:        Humanities Coordinator (Language Arts/SStudies)         Wage/Hour Status:  Exempt

Reports to:      Executive Director of C&I                                            Pay Grade: Admin 3; 226 days

Primary Purpose:

Provide support in District and Campus Curriculum Design and Management, including assigned content area, alignment of the written, taught, and tested curriculum, instructional programs, assessment, staff development, continuous improvement, and collaborative planning.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master’s degree with emphasis in curriculum and instruction, preferred

Principal certification, preferred

Certified in the State Appraisal System, preferred

Valid Texas teaching certificate in assigned subject area             

Demonstrated teaching and leadership competency in the assigned subject area

Experience:

Three-five years teaching experience in assigned subject area

Instructional leadership experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

School/District and Community Relations

  1. Works cooperatively with others.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of district policies and procedures.
  3. Participates in meetings, trainings, and special events.
  4. Follows appropriate line of authority.
  5. Adheres to state, district, and campus policies, regulations, and procedures.
  6. Participates in school/district and community activities.
  7. Prepares reports and communicates information and results for school/district and community activities.

Planning and Organization

  1. Develops, implements, and monitors action plans for meeting annual job targets.
  2. Prioritizes tasks and meets department timelines.
  3. Completes tasks in an accurate manner.
  4. Keeps records and information, organized, up-to-date, and accurate.
  5. Disseminates information on a timely and periodic basis.

Communication

  1. Communicates in a clear, effective and informative manner.
  2. Writes and speaks in an understandable and organized manner.
  3. Communicates role and program as it relates to the district’s mission and goals.
  4. Promotes positive interactions with colleagues and the community.

Instructional and Program Management

  1. Works cooperatively with directors and campus principals in developing and supervising the instructional programs.
  2. Participates in campus collaborative planning sessions to provide teacher support and feedback.
  3. Coordinates the review, development, and revision of curriculum documents and materials, including curriculum guides, course outlines, teaching plans, and pacing guides.
  4. Provides assessment development.
  5. Evaluates the curriculum and instructional program effectiveness on evaluative findings (including student achievement data) and recommends changes as needed.
  6. Bases recommendations and decisions on data analysis.
  7. Provides leadership and direction for continuous improvement.
  8. Coordinates the ordering and use of departmental instructional aids, instructional materials, and programs.
  9. Maintains a resource library of publications, supplementary materials, and supplies.
  10. Assist in the preparation of the budget and administration of the budget for supplies, equipment, instructional materials, and facilities.
  11. Participates in the development, preparation, and administration of the budget for supplies, equipment, and facilities.

Staff Development                                      

  1. Plans and provides staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff.
  2. Delivers staff development in a prepared organized manner, while modeling classroom management and instructional techniques.
  3. Disseminates information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels.
  4. Observes classroom instruction and provides feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation.
  5. Demonstrates teaching strategies with students in classroom.

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Adheres to professional ethical standards.
  2. Participates in self-evaluation.
  3. Cooperatively sets goals that reflect feedback from evaluation process.
  4. Seeks self-improvement ideas.
  5. Participates in professional development related to role and responsibilities.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written); maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
