Job Title:        Reading Interventionist                                          Wage/Hour Status:  Exempt

Reports to:      Campus Principal                                                   Pay Grade:  Teacher Salary Schedule

Primary Purpose:

Provide campus with reading interventions for students and/or teachers to ensure children are reading proficiently.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on ELA/Reading

Valid Texas secondary or mid-level teaching certificate

Demonstrated competency in reading instruction

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of 6-8 Reading/ELA TEKS

Knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to work in small groups with middle school struggling readers

Ability to work with teachers of middle school age children in teaching of reading

Knowledge of appropriate use of assessment and intervention strategies for struggling students

Strong organizational, communication, human relations and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

Three years teaching ELA/reading

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

  1. Provides instructional assistance to teachers.
  2. Assists individual students in improved reading through progress monitoring.
  3. Assists in the coordination of the instructional reading program.
  4. Facilitates the selection and implementation of instructional materials.
  5. Emphasis given to reading and mid-level student
  6. Participates in department planning and activities when requested.
  7. Supports the district professional development plan.
  8. Facilitates, as requested, campus and department professional development sessions.
  9. Assists in coordinating mid-level reading professional development opportunities.
  10. Assists campuses, as requested, in the disaggregation and interpretation of data.

Student Growth and Development

  1. Supports the utilization of appropriate social skills development throughout the curriculum.

Classroom Management and Organization

  1. Models appropriate classroom management techniques in all presentations.
  2. Remains knowledgeable of current best practices for classroom management.

Communication

  1. Adheres to professional ethical standards in relationships with students, teachers, parents, community members, peers, and support staff.

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Attends appropriate conferences and professional development for self-improvement.
  2. Utilizes information and insights gained in professional development activities.
  3. Reads, maintains, and utilizes current education and research literature.

Miscellaneous:

  1. Exhibits punctuality and dependability in carrying out assignments.
  2. Exhibits flexibility in the performance of assigned duties.
  3. Dresses and grooms appropriately.
  4. Performs other tasks and functions as assigned by the Principal.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written); maintain emotional control under stress.  Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
