Job Title:         Humanities Specialist                                            Wage/Hour Status:  Exempt

Reports to:      Chief Academic Officer                                          Pay Grade: Admin 2; 226 days

Primary Purpose:

Evaluate and provide leadership for the overall assigned subject instructional program.

Provide leadership and coordination in developing and implementing an aligned and articulated instructional program in assigned subject area.

Assist in directing and managing instructional programs and operations at the campus level.

Provide leadership to ensure high standards of instructional design and delivery.

Assist in the effective and efficient operations of the Teaching & Learning (T&L) department including: annually revising curriculum documents, planning and delivering applicable evidenced based professional development, and the design and delivery of an effective assessment system including the utilization of data to make systematic curricular decisions.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master’s degree with emphasis in curriculum and instruction preferred

Valid Texas teaching certificate in assigned subject area

Demonstrated teaching and leadership competency in the assigned subject area

Certified in the State Appraisal System preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of K-5 subject area

Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation

Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness

Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners

Ability to implement and interpret policy, procedures, and data

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

Three-five years teaching experience in assigned subject area

Instructional leadership experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Program Management

  1. Coordinate the review, development, and revision of assigned subject area programs and related curriculum documents and materials, including curriculum guides, course outlines, teaching plans, pacing guides, etc.
  2. Provides instructional design and delivery assistance to teachers.
  3. Works cooperatively with the Teaching & Learning (T&L) staff along with campus principals in developing and monitoring the instructional program in assigned subject area.
  4. Plans, improves, and oversees local testing programs for the assigned subject area.
  5. Coordinate the ordering and use of departmental instructional aids, instructional materials, and programs for assigned subject area.
  6. Obtain the use of evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine and evaluate the curriculum and instruction program effectiveness for the assigned subject area.
  7. Maintain a staff library of publications, supplementary materials, and supplies relevant to the assigned subject area.
  8. Assist in the preparation of the budget and administration of the budget for supplies, equipment, instructional materials, and facilities in the assigned subject area.
  9. Secure appropriate subject area consultants and all required documents according to District policies and procedures.
  10. Assists with curriculum development and alignment including assessments.
  11. Assists in the horizontal coordination and vertical articulation of the instructional program in the assigned subject
  12. Encourages and supports the development of innovative instructional programs in consultation with campus administration, staff, and the Chief Academic Officer.
  13. Participates in department planning and activities.
  14. Designs, plans, supports, facilitates, and delivers appropriate and applicable professional development in assigned subject area.
  15. Maintains an understanding of effective staff development practices based on national and state level
  16. Provides input and supports the district staff development plan.
  17. Works with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  18. Attends and prepares reports for the Board of Trustees meetings at the request of the Chief Academic Officer.
  19. Facilitates stakeholder meetings to acquire feedback regarding instructional design and delivery.

Student Growth and Development

  1. Supports the utilization of appropriate social skills development throughout the curriculum.
  2. Models appropriate classroom management and instructional techniques in all presentations.

Classroom Management and Organization

  1. Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation.

Communication

  1. Adheres to professional ethical standards in relationships with students, teachers, parents, community members, peers, and support staff.
  2. Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  3. Acts as liaison with parents and community.

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Attends appropriate conferences and seminars for self-improvement.
  2. Utilizes information and insights gained in professional development activities.
  3. Develops and maintains a goal-oriented focus for professional growth and program development.
  4. Reads, maintains, and utilizes current education and research literature.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written); maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
