Primary Purpose:
Coordinates the day-to-day operations of school bus drivers and bus aides with the bus routes.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High School diploma or equivalent
Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Bilingual required
Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
Ability to organize and assign people to duties
Fluent knowledge of computers and applications such as: Excel, Word, etc.
Ability to work well under stress and communicate well with people
Ability to relate to parents, students, and school personnel in the situations of bus problems
Evidence of ability to organize, plan, and implement a project to successful completion
Experience:
Three years experience in transportation, preferably in a supervisory capacity
Experience in supervising large groups of skilled and/or semi-skilled personnel
Dispatch experience required
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Daily Functions
- Monitor two-way radio and respond to school bus driver calls for assistance and routine checks.
- Inform schools of late buses, accidents, and discipline situations.
- Ensure that all buses are operating and on time.
- Maintain Transfinder routing software for all routes.
- Advise Operations Manager/Director of Transportation of any accident/incident and take action as directed.
- Respond to incoming phone calls seeking information on bus routes, times, bus problems, and all transportation matters.
- Maintain route files to include current route sheets, student lists, and seating charts.
- Complete a daily dispatch log.
- Maintain a registration data base.
- Attend all training on Transfinder routing software, and become familiar with overall operation.
- Direct Assistant Dispatcher in day-to-day dispatch functions.
- Ensure drivers’ times are accurate and report changes, for the purpose of payroll.
- Assign bus drivers to routes and find substitutes as needed.
- Assist with routing and scheduling of school buses.
- Act as a sub driver if needed.
- First line supervisor for drivers.
- Assist drivers in communicating with parents and school administration.
Other
- Coordinate Field Trip assignments with Operations Manager.
- Coordinate discipline and bus conduct reports with each NISD campus.
- Coordinate special needs route assignments.
- Coordinate summer routes
- Serve as a coordinator between bus drivers and staff.
- Forward school and driver requests to supervisor.
- Attend all training sessions as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
- Provide oversight of field trips on weekends.
- Ensure driver times are accurate and report changes to payroll.
- Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate work of assistant dispatcher.
