Job Title:         Human Resource Specialist                               Exemption Status/Test: Nonexempt

Reports to:      Executive Director of Human Resources            Pay Grade: 6

Primary Purpose:

Provide customer services and clerical assistance for the Human Resources department. Work under moderate supervision on the implementation and maintenance of SunGard PLUS 360 programs. Work closely with the department of Human Resources staff to maintain quality customer services in all areas.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED                                                                                            

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to understand and implement certification rules and procedures

Ability to use software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and do word processing

Basic math skills

Mastery of both oral and written English with the ability to write general correspondence

Effective organizational, communication and interpersonal skill

 

Experience:

Three years clerical experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Certification and Licensing

  1. Prepare correspondence, forms, reports, etc., for the Executive Director of Human Resources using personal computer.
  2.  
  3. Process teacher applications and verify certification with the Texas State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC), universities, colleges, and education agencies in other states.
  4. Assist with the maintenance of physical and computerized Human Resources files including payroll records, service records, and process hiring, leave, terminations, and other employment-related issues.
  5. Assist with the maintenance of teacher personnel files as needed
  6. Perform routine bookkeeping tasks, including simple arithmetic operations, for the department.
  7. Assist principals and Executive Director of human resources (HR) in identifying appropriate certification requirements for teacher assignment according to SBEC assignment criteria.
  8. Track certification, testing, and permit status and follow-up with employees to ensure completion of certification requirements within established timelines. Process SBEC permit applications and monitor permit status.
  9. Research and maintain current information on SBEC rules, certification requirements and processes, and testing dates.
  10. Assist human resources and other departments with the use and maintenance of SunGard eFinance, eSchool PLUS, eSolutions, PLUS 360 and other human resources software
  11. Use the automated substitute system, including data entry and generating reports, including substitute lists, absences reports, and utilization reports.

Records, Reports, and Correspondence

  1. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required including maintaining a database of certification and licensing information for certified or licensed professionals, paraprofessionals, and auxiliary employees.

  5. Key alphabetic, numeric, or symbolic data from source document and verify results according to procedures provided.

  7. Identify deficiencies in source documents and return them to originator for correction.

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
