Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. To support the vision and goals of the campus and district Fine Arts program, to produce outstanding dancers and performers, to develop individual dance skills in all students, to promote an appreciation for the best in all areas of dance, and to teach the value of individual and team effort in reaching a common goal. Empower students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned (Dance and Physical Education)

Demonstrated competency in the area of dance curriculum

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Strong Dance pedagogy background

Strong background in personal relations with students, colleagues and the community

Highly organized, must be able to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously

Knowledge of district and campus financial procedures

Strong positive background dealing with parents

Ability to collaborate with peers and colleagues on campus and across Nacogdoches ISD

 

Experience:

At least one year student teaching or approved internship

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Instructional Strategies

  1. Instruct 6th – 12th grade dance students in NISD
  2. Maintain quality student management and discipline in the organization and in the classroom.
  3. Maintain accurate, up-to-date inventory of school equipment.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned
  5. Manage all funds and budgets of the Dance Department
  6. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  7. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  8. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  9. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  10. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  11. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  12. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  13. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  14. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

Student Growth and Development

  1. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  2. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  3. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal, i.e., class sponsor and student organizations.
  4. Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

  1. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  2. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  4. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication

  1. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  2. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  3. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  2. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  3. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  4. Attend and participate in faculty meetings, department meetings, and serve on staff committees as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s), if applicable.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress.  Frequent travel required in-district and out-of-district for school functions and/or activities.  Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
